An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Fat Lady Is Getting Ready

(Proverbs 23:32 KJV)  At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

It is really hard for us to take the long term view of things.  We are so into the instant and the quick that we don’t care what will come at the “last” (319).  I have been experimenting with hot cereals for breakfast.  It became a daily ritual last summer when I was staying with my son.  I had known about instant, quick and old-fashioned oats but I was totally unaware of the steel cut variety.  They all start with hot water and a package of cereal.  The end product is different in each case.

It becomes clear that you have to decide early what you want at the end.  The context here is alcohol.  It could be drugs.  It could be gluttony.  It could be sex.  It could be gossip or so many things.  What kind of patterns are you establishing with your choices and behaviors today?

So?  What do you want after the fat lady sings?  You know, when it is over.  How about at the end of the day?  Think and plan for the long haul.  Jesus will be there with you.
