An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Conceited Imagination

(Proverbs 18:11 KJV)  The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

When you look at the uses of the word, it becomes clear that this is the “conceit” (imagination NASB) (4906) that is used in building idols and false gods.  We are very creative in finding substitutes for God in our lives.  The NASB  misses the point in calling it “imagination” instead of “conceit.”

Think about the focal points in your life, the things you “gotta have” to feel right.  Think about the walls you are working on to feel secure.  Most people can find their phone quicker than their Bible.  Most know more about video games than the gifts of the spirit.  It is amazing how many songs we can parrot but can’t quote much more than “Jesus wept” from the Word.

So?  Think about the kind of walls your priorities will build today.  Will they give life meaning and provide security or are they just figments of your imagination.  Invest your day in what is eternal.
