An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Thorns

The “thorn” (2336) is not the problem.  The problem is the fool who is not paying attention.  We have moved to a piece of property that has areas we will not mow.  When I walk through those areas my shoe laces become coated with thorns.  As long as I am careful it presents no difficulties.  It does not do me any good to get mad at the stickers.  They are doing their job.

Thorns in some cases are for protection.  A cactus has points to keep from being eaten.  A bull has horns so it can protect the herd.  Sometimes it is to increase the chances of reproducing.  The burrs on my shoes could be picked off and spread to generate new plants.

The key is in how I respond.  If I am careful I can remove them with no pain and suffering.  If I ignore them they will end up in my wife’s foot.  If I hurry I experience pain.

So?  Life gives us thorns.  How we respond depends on our wisdom level.
