An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Reachable Goals

(Proverbs 15:20 KJV)  A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

How are things between you and your parents?  Some might think it is too late to worry about.  Perhaps your parents, like mine, have already died.  In such a situation, how do you make your father “glad” (8055)?  Or what if you have a father who has made all the wrong choices and seems to despise the road of righteousness you have taken?

I guess I would recommend living in such a way that would make your father rejoice if he were alive and spiritually sane.  There is little we can do about how other people choose to respond to us.  Have you ever had a boss that you could never please?  How about a spouse that was angry no matter how hard you tried?  How about children that always found you an embarrassment?

That is their problem.  You need to be responsible, before God, for your choices, attitudes and priorities.

So?  Don’t expect to please people, they are finite and impossible.  I know because I am one.  Live to please God, He has a lot more flexibility for your weirdness than your parents.
