The Pay-Off

Proverbs 19:20 (KJV) Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

What caught my attention today is this phrase “in my latter end”.  I guess that pretty much sums up where I’m at.  We are told that our number of years is 70 and if we’re really strong, it will be 80.  I’m approaching that.  I expect to make it beyond that but you never know when the Lord will call you home.  I’m good with that.

I hope that during my life I have listened to council and been willing to have people teach me.  It’s always hard to know this for ourselves.  We’re really good at seeing things in others but lack insight when it comes to who we are and what we are doing.  God is blessing me at this point in my life so I assume that I must’ve done something right.

God is gracious.  God is always looking to reach out in His loving kindness.  At the same time God is not arbitrary.  There are plenty of verses to talk about the blessings that come with obedience.  I have so many blessings that I know I didn’t earn or don’t deserve, but I have to believe that somehow God took my willingness to listen to Him and magnified it through His glory and passed some of the leftovers down to me.

So?  Listen.  Learn.  Let God work His miracles in your life.  Keep in mind that the end is coming.  That’s something to rejoice about.
