Psalms 94:19 (KJV) In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
(Proverbs 23 also read)
There is a nuance to this verse that does not come through in the KJV. It centers around the word “thoughts”. I thought this was a generic word and it seems that way, but when you look it up, it’s only used one place in the Bible. The nuance is that these are “anxious thoughts”, as it says in the NASB.
Do you have knots developing in your soul? Do you have times where you look out at the horizon and wonder if those dark clouds mean storms ahead? This is a natural condition which God is acknowledging. This is what the psalmist is talking about. There are times when we are overcome with worry. What is being said here is that God is capable of bringing His comfort in the midst of that trial.
What is necessary to access that comfort? Trust. Confidence in God. A knowledge of God.
So? Work on spending the time with God when the water is smooth so that when the waves rise up, you will already be repaired or what’s coming. There is a promise here. It’s up to us to access it.
