(Pro 16:21 KJV) The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
If you compare this verse with the NASB you find a different emphasis. One seems to imply that moderate speech will make you a better teacher. The other goes with the idea that it will make it easier for the listener. As with so many places in scripture it is a matter of both.
Harsh speech will often overshadow what you want to say. The attitude will limit you as a teacher in trying to communicate. It is also almost impossible for some to listen to words when all they hear is an angry attitude.
So? It is a consistent point throughout the Bible. Think of the beginning of the definition of love with patience and kindness. Think of the Beatitudes with the meek inheriting the earth. It is a sound principle for almost all of our relationships and interactions. Moderation in everything except your love for the Lord.
