gods Are Not God

(Pro 25:2 KJV)  It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

It is not clear in the KJV but comes through in the NASB that the same word, “glory” (3519b) is used twice in the Hebrew.  Once the KJV translates it “honour”.  This points out two contrasting concepts from the Bible.

First, we have the similarities between man and God.  We are created in the image of God.  That means we are different than the animals around us.  They too were created but not on the same level or with the same intent.  Only in humans do we find the stamp of the divine.  Only for humans was the sacrifice of the Lamb.  Here we see both man and God connected to glory.

Second, we are not gods.  The glory has different functions in each.  One “conceals” (5641) and one “searches” (2713).  One knows all and filters it to man.  The other has to seek out truth.  We are limited and finite.  He is unlimited and infinite.

So?  We are not gods.  We can never be gods in the Biblical sense of the word.  There is a reason that proper English usage does not capitalize “gods” in the plural because they are always extensions of man and lacking in Godhood.  Rejoice that the God we serve is above all so-called gods.
